You either love them or you'd happily launch your phone into a hedge when one lands in your inbox.
I'll be honest...I'm firmly in Team Hedge "Please Just Send Me A Message."
Not because I'm grumpy (๐Ÿ‘€). But because voice notes are often only really convenient for the sender and often inconvenient for the receiver.
Now before the voice note lovers come for me, I understand the appeal. They're quick. They're personal. They're great when you're driving, walking the dog or trying to juggle 47 things at once.
But here's my issue...
Voice notes are often only really convenient for the sender, not the receiver.
Picture this.
You're in a meeting.
You're in a busy coffee shop.
You're between client calls.
Or you're trying to catch up on messages in the five minutes you've got spare.
A text message can be scanned in seconds.
A voice note demands your full attention.
You need a quiet space.
You might need headphones.
You might even need a pen and paper.
And occasionally the patience to listen to three minutes of: "Hiya, hope you're okay, just thought I'd jump on here quickly..."
before getting to the actual point.
Then comes the inevitable: "What was that thing they said halfway through?" ๐Ÿคจ
So you replay it.
And replay it again.
And somehow a 20-second piece of information has taken five minutes to process.
But here's the thing...
This isn't really about voice notes. It's about communication.
As business owners, we're always told to think about our ideal client.
Yet it's surprisingly easy to communicate in a way that's easiest for us rather than easiest for them.
Whether it's a voice note, an email, a social media post or your website copy, ask yourself:
"Am I doing this because it's easiest for me... or because it's easiest for my ideal client?"
The businesses that communicate best are usually the ones that make life easiest for their audience.
They get to the point.
They remove friction.
They respect people's time.
And that's a lesson worth remembering long after the voice note debate is over.
Because great marketing isn't about making it easy to send. It's about making it easy to receive ๐Ÿ

Iโ€™m genuinely so honoured (and a little bit shocked!) to have been nominated for a BusinessWomen UnLtd Shining Star Award for 2026.
I donโ€™t yet know whether itโ€™s for the Special Recognition Award or Best Networker Awardโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll have to wait until the event to find out ๐Ÿ‘€
What I do know is how grateful I feel to be included alongside so many incredible small business owners doing amazing things.
Running a business can sometimes feel like youโ€™re quietly working away behind the scenes (juggling the balls, spinning the plates and riding the rollercoaster) so moments like this really do mean a lot.
