Its that time of year again. Time for setting goals, making resolutions and reflecting on the past year. (And if you’re like me feeling guilty about what you didn’t get round to doing last year)
It struck me on this reflection that whilst I help other small businesses with their marketing and give (small) telling offs about being mute on social media, not updating websites or old, inconsistent marketing collateral it turns out I did the minimal myself last year for my business. It’s time to practice what I preach.
So knuckles suitably rapped i’m taking my own advice and making some marketing resolutions of my own this year. Which is to take the time to actually market The Marketing Hive and shout more about it.
I know, I know. I should know better!
Whilst I’ve been super busy working on some amazing projects in the last 18 months, I’ve kept them hidden. I haven’t shared them or shown them off, they are a secret. It’s also meant, whilst I have been knee deep in creating and maintaining websites for clients, I’m ashamed to say I’ve let my site slip a little and become outdated, with no fresh content – a cardinal online sin, forgive me oh digital gods of Google. So watch this space for a portfolio on the site…I promise.
And whilst I can happily write content, tweet and wax lyrical for and on behalf of my clients, when it comes to me and my business I find it…well, just a bit uncomfortable. (I don’t like to brag!) So my goal this year to get out of my comfort zone, stop hiding, find my business voice and start proudly sharing what I can do and do do for my lovely clients.
Are you the same? Do you leave marketing to the end of the list because you don’t have the time? Are you the best kept secret in your industry? Does social media leave you tongue tied?!
Lets set some marketing resolutions together.
- take the time to market our businesses
- shout about all the amazing things we do
- try something new and different – tweet that tweet, send that e-newsletter, create that portfolio
